Be on the lookout for this seasonal pest that is starting to invade South Florida. May or June beetles are a seasonal pest that emerges from the ground this time of year, hence the name. You may notice that this pest is most active in the evening and is attracted to landscape and interior lights. These beetles are harmless and have a very short life cycle. If you find them inside, you just need to catch and remove them.
Here are a few tips for dealing with this beetle:
- Make sure all doors and windows are closed and sealed properly.
- Make sure all outside lights are turned off during the night time (attracted to light).
- Make sure grass and trees are trimmed regularly.
- Make sure grass is being treated with insecticides either by us or landscapers.
